About PDF to Word

PDF to Word converts a PDF into a DOCX file with LibreOffice. Text becomes editable, but because PDFs store positioned text rather than paragraphs, the layout is rebuilt as positioned text boxes.

Best for short, text-based documents where you need to change wording. Scanned PDFs need OCR PDF first.

What it does

  • Editable text in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice
  • Images and positions carried over
  • Runs on this server, no third-party service

How to use PDF to Word

  1. Upload a PDF.
  2. Select Convert to Word.
  3. Download the DOCX file.
  4. Review the layout before reusing it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the layout look different?

PDFs do not store paragraphs. The converter recreates each block of text as a positioned box, which keeps the look but can make long edits awkward.

Will a scanned PDF convert?

A scan contains only images. Run OCR PDF first so there is text to convert.

Limits and privacy

Marked as partially implemented: layout fidelity is limited to what LibreOffice PDF import produces (text boxes rather than flowing paragraphs). Tables are not reconstructed as Word tables. In-browser fallback (no LibreOffice or API): text, paragraphs, headings and bold/italic are rebuilt; tables, columns and images inside text pages are not kept, and scanned pages are inserted as pictures.
