About PDF Redaction
PDF Redaction finds every occurrence of the words you list and removes them for real. Each affected page is rebuilt as an image with the matches blacked out, so the original text is no longer in the file. The tool then re-checks the output and fails the job if any term can still be extracted.
For sharing documents that contain names, account numbers, addresses or other information that must not leak.
What it does
- True removal: affected pages no longer contain the text layer
- Automatic verification that terms are gone
- Pages without matches stay untouched and searchable
- Whole-page redaction option
How to use PDF Redaction
- Upload a PDF.
- List the words, phrases or numbers to remove, one per line.
- Select Redact PDF.
- Check the report, then download the redacted file.
Frequently asked questions
Why not just draw black boxes?
A black box on top of text leaves the text in the file, where it can be copied. This tool removes the text layer from affected pages.
What about text inside images or scans?
Only text the PDF stores as text can be found. For scans, run OCR PDF first; the redacted output is verified against the text layer only.
Limits and privacy
Redacted pages become images of up to 200 dpi, so their remaining text is no longer selectable. Phrases split across lines on the same page are matched, but not across pages. Text drawn as vector outlines or inside images is not detected, and bookmark titles are not searched. Document properties that contain a term are cleared.
