VAT Calculator
Add or remove VAT at a rate you enter and show net, VAT and gross amounts.
How to use this tool
Choose the calculation method, enter your values and select Calculate. Reset clears results and restores the example inputs.
Formula
Gross = net × (1 + rate/100). Net = gross ÷ (1 + rate/100). VAT = gross − net.
Example
£100 plus 20% VAT is £120. Removing 20% VAT from £120 gives £100 net.
Assumptions and limits
The rate is user-selected. The default is an example, not a determination of the applicable rate or tax treatment. Rounding is applied only to displayed results.
Frequently asked question
Why not subtract 20% from the gross price? VAT is a percentage of the net price, so divide the gross amount by 1.2 for a 20% rate.
