Profit Margin and Markup Calculator
Calculate selling price, profit, margin and markup without confusing the two.
How to use this tool
Choose the calculation method, enter your values and select Calculate. Reset clears results and restores the example inputs.
Formula
Profit = selling price − cost. Margin = profit ÷ selling price × 100. Markup = profit ÷ cost × 100.
Example
Cost £80 and selling price £100 gives £20 profit, 20% margin and 25% markup.
Assumptions and limits
Use amounts on the same tax basis. Fees, overhead and VAT are excluded unless included in your cost. Ratios with a zero denominator are undefined.
Frequently asked question
Are margin and markup the same? No. Margin uses selling price as its denominator; markup uses cost.
